Blountstown Fire Chief Ben Hall recently garnered national attention when one of his photos won third place in a competition and was featured in a photography magazine.

Several months back, Hall entered the Tamron My World Photo Contest through Digital Photo Magazine, submitting three entries. He received an email in mid-October asking for more details on one of his photos that was among 300 finalists selected. He never heard anything else, so he figured he hadn’t won.

As a subscriber to the magazine, the latest issue arrived at his house earlier this month and it sat there for days unopened. One Monday morning around mid-December, Ben’s wife, Brooke, who teaches at Blountstown Elementary School called him from work. “Is that magazine still laying on the kitchen table?” she asked, adding, “You might want to look on page 15!”

Jeff Vickery, who works at the school, also subscribes to the magazine and came across a photo by Ben Hall, then asked Brooke about it. She and Ben had no idea one of his photos taken at a fire training class had won third place honors and was featured in the magazine.
“I'm very excited,” says Ben, who, in addition to serving as fire chief, is also owner of B’s Photography. “This is a huge accomplishment and I'm very honored.”

His photo, shown above, can be found on page 15 of the December issue of Digital Photo Magazine and in their online winners gallery at http://www.dpmag.com/photo-contests/2009-my-world.html http://www.dpmag.com/photo-contests/2009-my-world.html
