Mrs. Mary E. Yon, 84, of Blountstown, FL, passed away Sunday, December 13, 2009, in Panama City, FL.

Mary was born on October 30, 1925, to the late Louis Smith and Carrie Bell McCollough Smith in Blountstown. She worked with Blountstown Middle School and Blountstown Elementary School cafeteria for 25 years. Mrs. Yon was a member of St. Mary’s Missionary Baptist Church in Blountstown, the Christmas Savings Club and St. Mary’s Missionary Baptist Church Senior Women’s Ministry.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Louis and Carrie Smith; husband, William Yon; children, Helen Hayes Yon and William T. Yon; grandson, William Kenya Suddreth; great grandson, Fred Houston IV; brothers, Hayes Smith, John D. Smith, and George Smith.

Survivors include four sons, James Yon of Albany, GA, Herman Yon of Blountstown, Albert Yon and his wife, Marilyn, of Albany, GA, Michael Yon and his wife, Laverl, of Clarksburg, MD; two daughters, Carolyn Houston Yon of Lynn Haven, FL, and Deborah Hammond and her husband, Bobby, of Blountstown; daughters-in-law, Rosa Yon of New York City, NY, and Georgia Suddreth of Harlem, NY; grandchildren, Kwani (Keith), Andre, Tawana, James, James Sr., Fred III, Minous, William, Kenji, JaLissa, Ciara, Michael Jr., Breara, Brittney, D’ondre, Marcus, Bobbie, Deeara and Keyon; great grandchildren, Zacchaeus, Aquierius, Faith, James Jr., Hope, Ayonnie, and Josiah; sisters, Sarah Huffman of Newark, NJ, and Shirley Holmes of Blountstown; sisters-in-law, Alma Smith of Irvine, FL, and Minnie Dawson of Grand Ridge, FL.
Funeral services were held Saturday, December 19, at 1:00 pm (CST) at St. Mary’s Missionary Baptist Church in Blountstown with Dr. C.L. Wilson and Bishop Richard Jenkins, Sr. officiating. Interment followed in the Magnolia Cemetery in Blountstown.

All arrangements were under the direction of Marlon Peavy at Peavy Funeral Home in Blountstown (ph. 850-674-2266).
