POPLAR SPRINGS, DECEMBER 15
Falling behind 24-19 at halftime, the Altha Junior Varsity Wildcats kept hanging around and they made a fourth quarter run but came up short against the Poplar Springs Atomics, 43-39.

The Wildcats (1-5) jumped out to a 11-5 first quarter lead but the Atomics put up double-digit quarters in the second and third periods to hold off Altha.

Leading the Wildcats in the scoring column was Ryan Wood with 14 points (including 3 of 4 from beyond the arc). Caleb Chew was good for 6 points. Jeremy O’Bryan and Kent Rogers both added 5 points apiece. Both Jae Fielder and Tyler McClellan scored 3 points the old fashioned way. Sharlyn Smith knocked down her first 3-pointer of the season.

Looking for their first win of the season the varsity Wildcats (0-6) found themselves trailing the Atomics, 29-20, at the break. At the end of the third stanza Altha was only 6 points behind, 37-31 but that was as close as the Wildcats would get as Poplar Springs went on to win, 45-37.

The leading scorer for the Wildcats was Jacob Warner with 17 points. Tyler Hamilton and Will Rogers each had 8 points. Rounding out the scoring was Ethan Ellis and Terry Wyllie who chipped in 2 points apiece.
After their Christmas holidays the Wildcats will be back on the hardwood in Malone on January 5 taking on the Tigers. The Junior Varsity game is slated for a 5 pm start with varsity action getting underway at 6:30 pm.

GO WILDCATS!!!
