Mr. Harold Lloyd “H.L.” Howell, age 89, of Blountstown, FL, passed away on Tuesday, February 14, 2017, in Panama City, FL. Harold was born on August 26, 1927, in Hartford, AL, to Alpha Wade and Wanda (McCormick) Howell. He served his country proudly during two enlistments in the United States Army as an infantryman during World War II.




Harold worked for the State of Florida as an inspector for the Department of Agriculture. He had lived in Blountstown, FL since the early 1980’s, coming from Sebastian, FL. Harold loved hunting, enjoyed fishing in Sebastian, FL, and he famously sold watermelons every year in front of Blountstown’s local store, The Quick Pic. He was a member of the Baptist faith.
He is preceded in death by: his beloved wife of 59 years, Louise Cox Howell; parents, Alpha Wade and Wanda Howell; and brother, James Roy Howell.
Survivors include two daughters, Joyce Thomas and husband Dan, of Blountstown, FL, Kay Haynes and husband Joe, of Vancouver, WA; son, Bobby Howell and wife Linda, of Deltona, FL;2 brothers, CB Howell and wife Evelyn, of Bushnell, FL, Ralph Howell and wife Charlene, of Graceville, FL; sister, Sara McMasters, of Orlando, FL; 7 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and 6 great-great grandchildren, and a host of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, February 18, 2017 at 2:00 PM (CST) at Peavy Funeral Home Chapel in Blountstown, FL, with Pastor David Wood officiating and Pastor Dan Thomas assisting. Interment followed in Macedonia Cemetery in Blountstown, FL. Donations can be made to Covenant Care Hospice, 615 N. Bonita Avenue, Panama City, FL 32401.
All arrangements were under the care of Peavy Funeral Home in Blountstown, FL. 850-674-2266.
