Laverne Melton, age 75, of Altha passed away Thursday, February 2, 2017. She was born in Altha, January 9, 1942, to the late Leon O’Bryan and Juanita (Sansom) Barbano. Laverne worked at Calhoun-Liberty Hospital for eight years as a registered nurse and later retired from Florida State Hospital. After retirement, she returned to work at Calhoun-Liberty Hospital for several years. She was a member of Altha Church of God.
In addition to her parents, Leon O’Bryan and Juanita Barbano, Laverne was preceded in death by three brothers, Buddy O’Bryan, Robert O’Bryan, and Rex O’Bryan.
Survivors include two sons, Jason Melton and Jerry Melton, both of Altha; two daughters, Jahnie Economou and her husband, Alex and Julie Melton, both of Altha; grandchildren, Joel, Brooke and her husband Adam, Breanna, Georgia K, Corey and his wife Kayla, Cy, Ruby Ann, Will, Desiree, Shayla, and Hannah; great-grandchildren, Hadley, Logan, and Alexis; brother, Jimmy Bennett and his wife, Margaret of California; three sisters, Nadine Lee of Port St. Joe, Mary Lou Mason and Patty Bennett, both of California; and a sister-in-law, Connie O’Bryan of Texas, and Sadie, her beloved pet for fourteen years.
Funeral services were held at Altha Church God at 3:00 p.m. with Reverend Allan Nichols officiating. Interment followed in Chipola Cemetery in Altha.
