A serious accident this past Tuesday November 15th claimed the life of Mrs. Mildred Strawn, age 97, of Blountstown and seriously injured her Daughter, Marie Granger, age 68, also of Blountstown.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, Mrs. Granger was traveling southbound on Hwy 71 in a 2009 Mercury Marquis with Mrs. Strawn as her passenger, when it struck a logging skidder being pulled by a John Deere tractor in the roadway driven by Devin Atwell, age 23, of Bonifay, who was not injured. Upon hitting the Skidder, the car rotated and became airborne causing it to hit a northbound 2006 Isuzu truck driven by James Marcum, age 29 of Bonifay, causing it to overturn on its roof.

Mr. Marcum's truck came to rest in a nearby cotton field. Both Marcum and Granger sustained serious injuries, with Granger being transported to Tallahassee Memorial and Marcum to Bay Medical. In addition, a 1998 Chevy Camaro traveling northbound avoided the wreck by driving off the road into the cotton field. It was driven by Joshua Williams, age 36, of Cottondale. Mr. Williams was not injured. FHP notes that all 3 involved in the crash were wearing seatbelts. Charges are pending the completion of the homicide investigation by the Highway Patrol.

Mrs. Strawn’s obituary can be seen of page 6 of this issue. Mrs. Granger was expected to be released from the
hospital Monday or Tuesday of this week.
