A Marianna woman lost her life Sunday and two Blountstown men were injured in a two vehicle accident in Calhoun County.
Alice F. Yates, 81, was killed in the crash that occurred at the intersection of SR 71 and CR 275. Injured were Jermaine K. Battles, 37, and William K. Simmons, 43.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, Yates was traveling north on CR 275 around 12:35 p.m. in a 1999 Dodge car. At the same time, Battles was behind the wheel of a 1995 Toyota pickup headed south on SR 71 towing a Mitsubishi on a utility trailer. Yates violated the right of way at a stop intersection and entered SR 71. The left side of her vehicle collided with the front of Battles’ truck. Yates’ car rotated counter clockwise and came to final rest in a driveway culvert. Battles’ truck also rotated, causing the trailer and cargo to separate from the vehicle. The Mitsubishi being hauled overturned.
Yates was transported to Calhoun-Liberty Hospital where she was pronounced dead. Battles and Simmons were both taken to Bay Medical Center in serious condition.
The accident is being investigated by FHP Cpl. C.D. Chapman and homicide investigator Tpr. Philip Spaziante.
