The Altha Cross Country teams competed in the Wewa meet Oct. 30 and did very well.
Hannah Plazarin came in 2nd and Mary Sewell came in 3rd overall in the girls division. Devin Ferrell placed 2nd overall in the boys division.
“It was another true cross country course,” said Coach Maggie Sewell. “They ran through woods, mud, sand pit, and even a lap around a graveyard, kind of ironic the day before Halloween.”
The top five finishers for the girls were Hannah Plazarin, 23:39; Mary Sewell, 23:44; Kimi Wiltse, 26:42; Carly Schwartz, 27:49; and Rebekah Wiltse, 28:14.
The top five finishers for the boys were Devin Ferrell, 20:44; Porter Smith, 22:06; Ethan Ellis, 23:00; Brett Floyd, 23:09; and Ashton Baggett, 23:09:05.
The girls won the meet with a score of 23 to Wewa’s 49.
On Thursday, November 5, the team traveled to Maclay in Tallahassee to compete in the district meet. The girls team wound up placing 4th. The Altha team will now advance to regionals in their first year of competing! Watch for more details and photos in next week’s edition.
