Over 700 cyclists arrive in Blountstown Friday

BY KRISTY H. TERRY
Chamber of Commerce

More than 700 cyclists will be in Blountstown from Friday, March 20th, through Monday, March 23rd, as part of the Bike Flordia Caverns To Coast Tour. A weekend filled with events is planned. The schedule is as follows:
Friday, March 20th – Cyclists begin to arrive in Blountstown; registration opens.

Saturday, March 21st – Tour begins with an option to stay close to town for shopping, sight-seeing, and visits to the Panhandle Pioneer Settlement. Or, cyclists may opt for the 40-mile or 60-mile roundtrip to Torreya Park in Liberty County.

Saturday evening there will be a Moonlight Market/Downtown After Dark event featuring vendors and live entertainment from 4 to 9 p.m. in the Pear Street Market area, Centennial green space, and Preble-Rish Gallery area. Main Street is coordinating arts & craft and food vendors for the evening event. Contact Dana Foster at danalfoster @gmail.com or 674-1311 to sign up.

Sunday, March 22nd – Daily routes offer a 40-mile or 70-mile roundtrip to the Chipola River and outlying areas in the northwest part of the county.

That evening, Blountstown-native Jim McClellan will give a presentation on his recently released book, “Life Along the Apalachicola River,” in the BMS auditorium.

He will share excerpts and images from the book, as well as sign copies and meet guests. This event is also open to the public.

Monday, March 23rd – Cyclists will pack up and relocate to Marianna where they will stay through Wednesday, then travel to St. Joe, and back to Blountstown on
Friday, March 27.

Upon their arrival, the Chamber will provide guests with details of vendors, retail promotions, etc. Please email kristy@calhounco.org if you would like to volunteer or offer food options. For more information on Bike Florida or the Caverns to Coast Tour, visit www.bikeflorida.org.
