Burke Hayes Leonard, age 77, of Blountstown, Florida passed away Wednesday, March 11, 2015 in Blountstown.

Hayes was born May 21, 1937 in Dothan, Alabama to the late Daniel Hampton Leonard and Martha Hayes Leonard Leath. He was a forester and earned a degree in forestry at the University of Florida. Hayes served on the Gator Booster Board of Directors, Ellis Bank Board of Directors, Calhoun-Liberty Hospital Board, Neal Land and Timber Board, and was President of Immonia Lake Hunting and Fishing Club. He was also a long time faithful member of his Sunday school class at First Baptist Church.

Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by his step-father, William B. Leath.

Survivors include his wife, Hester (Durham) Leonard of Blountstown; two sons, Joe Leonard and his wife, Heather of Blountstown and Mike Leonard and his wife, Sue, also of Blountstown; five grandsons, Daniel Leonard and his wife, Ali, David Leonard, William Leonard and his fiancé Morgan Lee, Michael Leonard and his fiancé, Morgan Dukes, and James Patrick Leonard.

The family will receive friends at 10:00 a.m., Friday, March 13, 2015 at First Baptist Church in Blountstown. Funeral services will follow at the church at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Tim Rhoads officiating. Interment will be in Pine Memorial Cemetery near Blountstown.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Florida Baptist Children’s Home, P. O. Box 8190, Lakeland, FL 33802-9963 or Covenant Hospice 4215 Kelson Avenue Suite E, Marianna, FL 32446.
