The Blountstown Tiger basketball team chalked up a 65-51 win over Vernon Friday night.
“I was proud of the effort and attitude the boys had before and during the game against Vernon Friday night,” says Coach Gerald Tranquille. “They realized that it was a big district game and a good opponent which allowed us to stay focused and compete for four quarters. We started out on such a high note to the season, I knew it would be hard for us to sustain it. Right before the Christmas break, we lost our focus and intensity. I think now we have regained our motivation and the guys have been working hard. I'm very proud of them.”
Coach Tranquille says the boys came out “fast and strong” Friday night.
“We were leading by over 20 points at halftime,” he remarks. “I told the guys it wasn't about how hard we started, but how we finished because we had never been up by such a large margin so early. Hats off to Vernon because they came out the 3rd quarter and fought back, cutting our lead to only 11 points going into the 4th quarter.
But that is as far as they could get as we pulled off the win 65-51.”
KK Godwin lead the way with 25 points. D'Anta Williams followed with 13 and Deonta Dudley had 9 big points off the bench.
The Tigers hosted Tallavana Christian Monday and traveled to Aucilla Christian Tuesday (details unavailable at press time). They will be in Graceville Thursday at 7:30 p.m. then host Altha Friday night, also at 7:30 p.m.
