Born on October 5, 1957, in Blountstown, Florida, Roosevelt “Bubba” Garrett, Jr. was the second child born to Roosevelt Garrett, Sr. and the late Minnie Lois Garrett. When presented her new brother, one-year-old Mildred nicknamed him Bubba.
Bubba was a handsome and charming young man who loved sports, horses, motorcycles and people. He attended Blountstown High School and was the star wide-receiver when the Blountstown Tigers won their first state football championship in 1973. Bubba graduated from BHS in 1975 and went on to play football for Albany State University. After suffering injuries to his shoulder, he withdrew from ASU and joined the U.S. Army where he served three years before receiving an honorable discharge.
Bubba returned home to Blountstown where he served as a correctional officer before joining the team at Johnny Halley’s Service Station. For over 30 years, Bubba enjoyed serving the customers that visited the station and the customers loved him. In more recent years, he ran his own business doing yard work and car detailing.
Bubba departed his earthly home on December 12, 2014. He leaves behind his father, Roosevelt Garrett, Sr., and stepmother, Agnes Thompson Garrett, of Bristol; five daughters, Melissa Dantzler (Stan) of Tallahassee, Brittany, Bianca and Beyonce Garrett of Bristol, and Zierra Garrett of Blountstown; seven sons, Delveron Garrett and Alexander Garrett of Panama City, Christopher Garrett of Marianna, Blake Garrett of Tallahassee, Xzabrion and Zacari Garrett of Blountstown, and Braxton Simmons of Blountstown; three grandchildren, Nilah Dantzler of Tallahassee, and Amany and Junaya Garrett of Panama City; four sisters, Mildred Battle (Brent) of Blountstown, Bernestine Jordan (Kenny) of Winter Springs, Valerie Snowden (Greg) of Lehigh Acres, and Lynett Smith (Carl) of Lilburn, GA; four brothers, Curtis Garrett of Tallahassee, Recio Garrett (Felicia) and Lee Davis of Blountstown, and Craig Thompson of Bristol; extended family, Latrell Smith of Rockledge, Willodean Huard of Bristol, Sybil Halley and Emily Jones of Blountstown; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
