Reverend Ross H. Bateman, Jr., 82, of Graceville, Florida, passed away Sunday, May 18, 2014 in Blountstown.
He was born in Bristol, Florida, January 10, 1932, to the late Ross Homer, Sr. and Jessie (Granthum) Bateman. Ross served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict as a Protestant Chaplain’s Assistant and also served in the reserves for six years. He continued his ministry serving in local churches.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Shirley Ann Bateman.
Survivors include two sons, John R. Bateman and his wife, Maryellen, of Bakersfield, California, and Joel R. Bateman and his wife, Virginia, of Lima, Ohio; four grandchildren, Justin, Bret, Alisha, and Amy; four sisters, Edwinna Dalton and her husband, Massey, of Bristol, Gwynn Carpenter of Tallahassee, Florida, Jean Helton of Charlotte, North Carolina, and Ouida Strickland and her husband, James, of Tallahassee; and several nieces, nephews, and other extended family.
Funeral services will be held at 4:00 p.m. ET, Wednesday, May 21, at Lake Mystic Baptist Church in Bristol with Reverend Ken Hosford and Reverend Jerry Chumley officiating. Interment will follow in Lake Mystic Cemetery with military honors.
