Richard Harris “Tex” Blount, 74, of Gadsden, AL, died Wed., Feb. 19, 2014.
Mr. Blount proudly served his country first in the Marine Corps and then enlisted in the United States Air Force where he served in Vietnam as an air transportation supervisor. Upon his military retirement, he worked in heating and air conditioning supply and retired from Solar Supply Co. in Alexandria, LA, where he lived until 2009.
When he moved to Gadsden, Mr. Blount loved to ride his motorcycle, fishing, camping with his family and hunting. Most of all he loved his family.
He was preceded in death by his spouse of 50 years, Ruthie Nichols Blount; parents, John Harrison Blount and Edna Lucille McGilvray Blount; brother, Dale Wayne Blount; grandson, Samuel Nichols; and granddaughter, Sandra McAdams Johnson.
Survivors include daughters, Patricia McAdams and her husband, Jim, of Gadsden, AL, and Bonnie Bryn and her husband, Randy, of Shreveport, LA; sons, Robert C. Nichols and his wife, Jan, of Boyce, LA, Billy M. Nichols of Altha, FL, and Gene Weaver and his wife, Paula, of Lynn Haven, FL; sister, Shirley Wilson, of Reno, Nevada; 17 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren; and two Great Grandchildren
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, February 26, at 3:30 pm at St. James Catholic Church in Gadsden, AL, and Saturday March 1, at 12:00 noon at Frink Baptist Church in Frink, FL. Father Marcus Voss, O.S.B. officiating in Gadsden and Reverend Dan Thomas officiating in Frink. Interment will follow at McClellan Cemetery in Frink. The family will receive friends Friday, February 28, at 6:00 pm at Peavy Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. James Catholic School Gift Fund.
Serving as pallbearers are, Christopher J. McAdams, James Carlton Walden, Richard Graham, Jim McAdams, Johnny Kilgo, Danny H, Walden. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be the physicians and staff at Gadsden Regional Medical Center; Denise, Lyndsi, Cara and the staff of AlaCare Hospice.
