Calhoun County residents will soon have a new garbage service provider as the Board of County Commissioners voted last Tuesday to award the contract to Emerald Waste Services (EWS).
As reported in The County Record last month, Waste Management, the current provider, and Waste Pro of Florida, were also competing for the job. A review committee ranked all the bids with Waste Management coming out on top due to factors other than price, such as experience. However, EWS was number one in price with a proposed cost of $14.95 per month.
During the commission meeting last week, the board decided not to have the payments collected through the county property tax bill as proposed, opting to have customers billed by the company.
EWS will take over in January. County residents will be receiving notices soon on containers and other issues that will be involved in the transition.
