Calhoun County Superintendent of Schools Ralph Yoder has announced that Blountstown Middle School exceptional student educator Sandra White has been nominated as a 2013-14 national LifeChanger of the Year.
LifeChanger of the Year is a national program sponsored by National Life Group that recognizes and rewards outstanding K-12 educators and school district employees from around the country who make a positive difference in the lives of students.
Mrs. White was nominated by colleague Sandra Davis. Ms. Davis says Mrs. White teaches her students valuable life skills such as grocery shopping and cooking to ensure they grow as independent and mature adults after graduating.
“Mrs. White has dedicated her career to the field of Exceptional Student Education and spends countless unpaid hours helping her students,” said Ms. Davis, noting Mrs. White also supplies her students with everything from toiletries to warm clothes to help them feel safe and comfortable.
Superintendent Yoder stated, “This recognition of Mrs. White’s special contribution to her students is indicative of the caliber of the faculty and staff of the Calhoun County School system. In my opinion, our faculty and staff are all ‘LifeChangers’ in various ways. This dovetails nicely with the monthly “Make Their Day Better” award instituted this year to recognize individuals that make a difference in the day of fellow staff members, students and/or parents.”
From the hundreds of nominations received each year, ten winners are selected to receive cash awards that are split between the individual winner and their school. The national Grand Prize award is $10,000. The top three winners are also honored at a national awards ceremony.
Nominees must be full-time school employees. Award winners are selected based on the following criteria:
- A proven ability to make a beneficial difference in the lives of students
- An ability to positively add to the development of the school and/or district’s atmosphere
- A leader in his or her activities at the school and/or district level
- A proven record of excellent performance at the professional level
- A commitment to producing a nurturing atmosphere
Nominations for the program will be accepted through the end of January 2014 with winners to be announced in Spring 2014.
