Stephen Donnell Whitfield, 74 of Bristol, Florida, passed away Thursday, August 15, 2013, in Blountstown, Florida.
Donnell served in the United States Air Force for eight years and the Reserves for two years. He served on the Board of County Commissioners in Calhoun County for 28 years and was a long time member of Blountstown First United Methodist Church. Donnell was a wonderful father and grandfather, an avid hunter and fisherman, and, in his later years, he enjoyed gardening.
Preceding him in death were his parents, Rubin and Gertrude (Odom) Whitfield; his son, Mark Whitfield; and a sister, Sharon Parrish.
He is survived by his wife, Bernice, of Bristol; a son, Steve Whitfield, and wife, Vicky, of Blountstown; grandchildren, Doug, Drew, and Ashley Whitfield, Mandy Hires, Paula Rich, and Phyllis McPhaul; three great-grandchildren, April and Kaylee Rich and Ryan Whitfield; stepsons, Kenneth Stacy of Marianna, Florida, and Tracey Stacy of Blountstown; a step-daughter, Patsy McPhaul, also of Blountstown; and several nieces, nephews and other extended family.
Funeral services were held at 3:00 p.m. CDT, Sunday, August 18, in the Chapel at Adams Funeral Home with Reverend Jim Jines officiating. Interment followed in Nettle Ridge Cemetery in Blountstown.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Covenant Hospice, 4440 Lafayette Street, Suite C, Marianna, Florida 32446.
Adams Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements (phone 674-5449). Please visit adamsfh.com to share words of comfort with the family.
