Watch as Blountstown Firefighters battle a blaze at Hidden Creek Trailer Park Tuesday morning, Oct. 6, 2009.

A neighbor called authorities around 11 a.m. after noticing smoke at the doublewide where Ebony McKenzie and her son reside. They were not home at the time. Assisting the BFD at the scene were firefighters from Kinard and West Side. The home was a total loss. The cause of the blaze is not yet known. Check out next week's print edition for more details.

Great video Kelli. Our guys may not be "by the book" but they get the job done. FYI the majority of the fire damage was in that front corner bedroom with smoke damage throughout. No one was hurt- that's the most important thing.

Hey Ben dont sweat the people that dont know what they are talking about. Im sure if the "chief" were really a fire officer or even fire fighter, he would know what a textbook heavy smoke showing looks like. You guys did an excellent job in my book. Keep your chin and good work up. Those that really depend on you, appreciate you and your guys.

Oh ya!!...Great job boys. You only took 5 minutes to get into an aluminum door and then you had to do it twice..."Try the window". Then some Fire Chief is running around without a fire suit. Hupps...I forgot my helmet, can you get me one. Then the fire trucks park 50 feet from fire..that was smart, since you knew I guess that the trailer had no gas service. As a fellow Fire Fighter from Tampa....You looked like the "Keystone Cops". Oh..where were the cops by the way??..Hope to Gawd when they build the New High School, another Fire Department can watch our kids!!

Apparently you are not a real firefighter. If you were you would not be so negative in your comments. Real firemen share a brotherly love for one another, from your statements I don't think you do. Otherwise you would have been proud to see that no one was hurt, no occupants inside, you know, the reason that we do what we do. If you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all. Chief Hall has done a lot for fire protection not only in Blountstown but for all of Calhoun county. Keep your south Florida comments in south Florida because we don't care how you do it there. Fire suit?? What department wears suits instead of turnout gear? Huh, city folk...

Haven't you got anything better to da than to come to a town 1/100th the size of Tampa with less than that of a budget and criticize?
Our guys do a wonderful job, especially seeing the fact that the majority are volunteers. If you don't like it here, go back to Tampa.

Sounds like "Mr. Roberts" should volunteer his time and expertise, since he's so dissatisfied with emergency services here in the woods.

So the door closed. So what? They got it open, compartmentalized the fire and made good use of the PPV. The fire burned through the floor prior to the arrival of the FD. Yet in such a small mobile home they held it to one corner of the structure. Oh and the "cops" were there, in fact visible in the video if you pay attention.

I was a firefighter in Escambia for 16 years. Can I look at a film and find mistakes? Sure I can. Probably any film. Love to critique some of your films some day "Chief." Do I do this world any good whatsoever by critiquing them "here?" Well, you certainly haven't done such a great job now have you? But "good" wasn't exactly what you were going for, was it?

I did chuckle a bit while reading the aforementioned non-industry standard "terminology" you chose... "fire suit." Sounds amateur to me, but hey it's your lie... you tell it how you want to.

"Try the window?" What... instead of the door? That how they do things in Tampa? Fighting fires from burned to unburned areas of the structure? Pushing it right through a mobile home? Really?

Well... down here, we like to minimize damage. It's sort of "preferred." Opening the window, seemed to be a ventilation tactic rather than an access tactic. Seemed to work too. Or did you notice the fan? But hey... that's just my view from the cheap seats... KINDA LIKE YOURS!

Chief... yeah right.

Andy, Kevin, JD and JK I have to agree. One thing I would add is that most firefighters in our community are volunteers. They give there time to take the classes (college) that the state says you have to have to be a VOLUNTEER. They do the daily duties of taken care of there fire house. Maintenance on apparatus, checking generators, fans any thing that is done at a major fire department they do again as a volunteer. Then they risk there lives to go running into a burning building to save what can be saved, whether it is picture of great grandma, or the by the grace of god they are able to put that pan of grease that is on fire out before it turns into a fully engulfed fire. At any fire you can look back and find something that you have done wrong. Whether it is it took a few more min to open a door. Have you put turn out gear on and tried this? It’s not easy as you think. Or get caught up in trying to get water pumping and pulling hoses to leave your helmet. To get part way there and you have someone that has grabbed it to bring to you. That is why it’s a brotherhood. We look out for each other.
Like my mom always says every one has there opinion like they have other things. This is just mine.
I am proud to be a VFF in Calhoun County and would be privileged to have anyone of these guys watching my back when I go to a fire. Chief Halls might work for BFD but he volunteers his off time to help with anything that is needed through out the county. Thanks for all that you do Ben.

Can't find a "chief" jim roberts in Tampa.............strange. Maybe he's a keystone bloger, a firefighter wanna be. Why would "his" kids be in our school system?? great job Ben. Our kids are in great hands.

As a member of westside volunteer fire department i would like to thank Ben Hall and all of blountstown fire department for the well needed mutual aid in this fire and all the others. Thanks alot guys.
