The Florida Department of Law Enforcement advised The County Record Friday afternoon that the first applicant has stepped forward seeking the Liberty County sheriff's post. Lloyd Alton "Skip" Shiver, Jr. has thrown his hat in the ring to be considered for the appointment by Gov. Rick Scott. Shiver served as Franklin County Sheriff from 2009 until January of this year when his term ended. He did not seek re-election. As previously reported, Liberty County Sheriff Nick Finch has been suspended following his arrest for official misconduct. Should he be cleared in the case, he can return to office. Assistant Special Agent Carl Causey of FDLE's Pensacola region is serving as interim sheriff for 30 days until an appointment is made by Gov. Scott. Watch for more details and announcements about new applicants in our print edition Wednesday.

No not someone who is not from here. Just not right. I am for someone who lives in Liberty County. Isn't that part of the criteria when you are a candidate for election. Gov. Scott is over stepping his boundaries. the people of Liberty County Elected FINCH to be their sheriff. I believe what FINCH did is a regular practice of Many Florida sheriffs. The people who did not vote for him is behind all this. It is a shame to you who spend your time making others life a living hell. Life is stressful enough. Gov Scott I hope people remember this when you run for office again. YOU will not get my VOTE.

I think Donnie Conyers should be considered if we are looking for a new sheriff, after all he only lost the election by a small number of votes, which means a lot of people wanted him to stay in office.I had never heard of Nick Finch until he decided to run for sheriff, but on the other hand,I don't want Nick to lose his job if he was acting within his rights, and i would be in favor of him being reinstated as our sheriff in liberty county if he is found not guilty of official misconduct.

Liberty County voters voted Nic Finch Finch for Sheriff and untill he is proven proven guilty of he offense then there should be no applications accepted especially from someone out of county. We have plenty of qualified people in Liberty County that can hold the position... so the applicants can just stay where he's at and stay put of Liberty Counties business.

Would be a big mistake! Mock had Franklin County cleaned up, and now he is having to do it again, because Shiver did not do anything for 4 years.
