Officers from Calhoun Correctional Institution, the Blountstown Police Department, Blountstown Fire Department and Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office joined in the Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics Tuesday.
The torch was passed from Liberty County and runners made their way through Calhoun County to Altha where it was passed to Jackson County officers. The event continues throughout the state all month.
Each year, over 5,000 officers carry the torch on a 1500-mile relay through 66 counties in Florida. Funds are generated through contributions from individuals and businesses along the way and through sales of the popular Torch Run T-shirts and caps.
This event is held each year prior to Special Olympics Florida State Summer Games.
