When 2012 Blountstown High School graduate Chaz Fain was gunned down last month in Tulsa, Oklahoma, loved ones back home in Calhoun County struggled to make sense of the tragedy.
Fain, 18, had just embarked on a new chapter in his young life at Spartan School of Aeronautics when he was killed by a gunman at a party who also shot and wounded three other guests.
In an effort to bring something positive from the loss of Chaz, friends have established a scholarship in his memory.
“Some of you knew his smile, kindness, determination or recall the state weightlifting title he won in his junior year,” says Wendy Byrne, the mother of Chris Byrne, a close friend and former teammate of Fain. “We want to help another student graduating from Blountstown High School. It’s what Chaz would want.”
Wendy says friends hope to present a scholarship at the 2013 graduation ceremony, but need support from the community to make this happen. T-shirts with the logo pictured here are being sold for $15 each. The shirts can be ordered from BHS, Big River Sports in Bristol, or from Wendy (ph. 209-4695). Checks should be made payable to the Chaz C. Fain Memorial Scholarship Fund.
