On February 21, the Calhoun County Sheriffs Office received a report of a theft of two firearms at a home in the Cypress Pointe Community near Kinard.
The victims found two handguns missing from the home after some renovations were made to the home earlier in the month.
An investigation ensued and it was discovered that one of the workers had an extensive criminal history and was recently released from prison on a manufacture of methamphetamine charge.
Investigators, Lt. Jared Nichols and Lt. Todd Wheetley, along with a Bay County sheriff’s deputy, made contact with 28-year-old James Michael Cox at his residence on April Avenue in the Fountain area of Bay County. A search of the residence was conducted at Mr. Cox’s consent.
A model 1911 .45 caliber semi-automatic handgun was located under Cox’s bed. The serial number and description of the firearm matched the firearm from the victims’ residence in Cypress Pointe.
Cox was placed under arrest by the Bay County Sheriffs Office for possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
He will face grand theft charges for the firearm in Calhoun County and is possibly linked to a similar burglary at another Cypress Pointe home.
