Tigers continue on a winning streak

The Tigers varsity baseball team picked up four wins this past week including three district games.

The Tigers began on Monday by defeating district foe West Gadsden in a run rule shortened game by a score of 15-0.

Rontravious Brown got the win on the mound by going three strong innings, striking out seven and allowing 1 walk and 0 hits.

Derek Eberly finished in relief, not allowing a hit and striking out 3.

Taylor Mauck led the way offensively, going 2-2. Tootie Wood added a homerun in the bottom of the 2nd. Colby Mullins, Brandon Purvis, and Eberly also added a hit each.

On Tuesday, the Tigers traveled to Tallahassee to take on John Paul II and came away with a 14-2 victory. The Tigers surrendered 2 runs in the first and didn’t allow them to score after. Taylor Mauck picked up the win in relief, going 3-1/3 innings allowing 1 hit, walking 2, and striking out 3. Tootie Wood pitched the final 2 innings, not allowing a hit, walking 1, and striking out 2.

Colby Mullins led the charge, going 4-4 at the plate with 2 doubles. Wood was 2-3 with a homerun. Rontravious Brown, and Tanner Peacock also collected 2 hits each.

On Thursday, the Tigers hosted Port St. Joe in a makeup game and defeated the Sharks, 11-1. Colby Mullins got the start on the hill and collected the win, going 4-2/3 innings, giving up 5 hits, 4 walks, and struck out 7. Ridge Dietz came on in relief and recorded the final out.

Offensively, the Tigers were led by Taylor Mauck, Tootie Wood, and Hunter Jordan getting 2 hits each. Jordan and Wood had 2 doubles.

On Friday, night the Tigers traveled to Port St. Joe and picked up the fourth win of the week by defeating the Sharks, 18-0. Hunter Jordan picked up the win on the hill, going 3 innings, allowing 2 hits and collecting 1 strikeout. Tootie Wood pitched the final 2 innings, allowing 1 hit and striking out 1.

The Tigers recorded 16 hits on the night offensively with Taylor Mauck going 4-5 with a triple and a double. Rontravious Brown was 3-3 at the plate. Derek Eberly, Wood, Josh Taylor, and Brandon Purvis all had 2 hits each.

The J.V. team traveled to P.S.J. on Friday and lost their game by a score of 5-3. The Tigers hosted Ingomar H.S. and Myrtle H.S. out of Mississippi on Monday and Tuesday (details unavailable at press time). The tigers will host South Walton on Thursday at 3 and 5, J.V. followed by varsity, and Marianna on Saturday at 4 with the J.V. game starting at 1.
