Woman jailed after threats with rifle

Mary Ellen Bowen, 57, has been charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon without intent to kill.

According to the Liberty County Sheriff’s Office, Bowen allegedly showed up at her ex-boyfriend’s door in Estiffanulga last Tuesday night. The man said Bowen was “ranting and raving, then grabbed his rifle. The man said he knew the gun was not loaded, but was aware she had ammunition for the weapon in the console of her vehicle. Bowen allegedly stated she was going to shoot him, then turn the gun on herself. When she stepped out of his house, he locked the door and told a friend to call 911.

Bowen was located by Capt. Tim Partridge as she stood on County Road 333. He noted she was intoxicated.
