A local convenience store cashier was arrested last week for allegedly stealing lottery tickets and cashing in on her winnings.
Cynthia Leigh Coleman, 39, has been charged with violation of the Florida Communications Fraud Act, as well as petit theft.
According to the Blountstown Police Department, Inv. Michael Bryant reviewed surveillance tapes during one of Coleman’s shifts at the Texaco on Central Avenue West following suspicious activity. The tape revealed and Coleman later confessed to canceling numerous transactions during her shift, although customers actually made purchases, then using the money to play an estimated 30 lottery tickets valued at $132. Coleman won $1168 from the lottery tickets during that day’s shift.
Arrest records indicate Coleman has a criminal history of fraud cases. She reportedly told Inv. Bryant she is addicted to playing the lottery and had been committing the activity at the Texaco for the past month.
She was booked into the Calhoun County Jail and given a conditional release.
