An investigation into a residential burglary in Altha has led to a suspect from Madison County.

Chad Michael Kinsey of Greenville is facing burglary and theft charges in the case.

According to the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office, a homeowner on NW Baggett Loop called authorities January 25 after returning home from out of town to discover household items from a travel trailer and pole barn had been stolen. Investigators canvassed the neighborhood and learned Kinsey had been spotted in a wooded area near the victim’s residence carrying some of the items reported stolen.

Investigators Jared Nichols and Todd Wheetley traveled to Greenville Feb. 8 to locate Kinsey and interview him about the case. However, when the investigators arrived at his home, Kinsey jumped out a side window, then fled on foot to a nearby residence where he barricaded himself inside. Family members eventually coaxed him out.

Madison County deputies responded to assist and discovered Kinsey was wanted in Bay County for burglary, felony criminal mischief, and petit theft. He was taken into custody on the outstanding warrants.

Although he admitted to being in the Baggett Loop area during the time of the Altha burglary, Kinsey denied any involvement.

Burglary and theft warrants have been applied for Kinsey in the Altha case. He remains in custody at the Madison County Jail awaiting transport to face the Calhoun County and Bay County charges.
