Kimbrel should have arrested him to start with instead of endangering Mears ex-wife, her family, and whoever else was on Mears list. I hope this isn't how Kimbrel is going to be as a Sherifff.

My thoughts and prayers are with the ex-wife and her family. I can't believe that someone can be "turned loose" after such crime was committed! What would have been done if he would have returned to his ex-wife's home for round two?? Just don't seem fair for someone to be slapped on the wrist and turned back out into society!!Thank God these actions didn't lead up to someone getting badly injured or killed!!! LORD HELP THE CITIZENS OF CALHOUN COUNTY!!! Pray that our new Sheriff takes control or else our county is in for it!!! Talk about serving and protecting?!?!?!

Yeah and I'm sure there are lots of things that are involved that we don't know about, and it sounds like to me the situation was handled, he went to jail. As far as helping the citizens of Calhoun County, they were helped when we got a new Sheriff

How you figure when he didn't arrest him on site? If he wasn't an ex-cop he would have been arrested when the complaint was filed

Is anyone else concerned when you read the paper and the sheriff says that he doesn't know what happened when asked why Mears was allowed to leave when he was supposed to be baker acted?? Isn't the Sheriff supposed to know that??

My thoughts exactly Jason!! I mean REALLY?? I do believe that Sheriff Kimbrel has a lot of "studying" to do!! Steve was not "court ordered" to go to a mental facility to begin with, so technically, he didn't have to go in the first place and that is why he was allowed to leave the facility. I have nothing to do with law enforcement and I know that much. It's scary to think that a man that is running our county would say something like that. Guess he should have asked his "Right hand man", Emory that question before he answered it since he was there too!! I'm just gonna sit back and watch this "good ole' boy system" from the sideline SMH the whole entire time and pray that these next 4 years fly by!!!

Ya know it's pretty obvious that a couple of these comments are directly targeted at the sheriff himself not because of this particular incident, but because it was just a great opportunity to take a stab at a man that is trying to better the county he loves instead of sitting back and watching a bunch of dictators harass and destroy young lives over ridiculous gestopo type leadership thats not nessesary. Perhaps some of these comments were fueled by the fact that our new sheriff didnt see room for your arrogant ways that are plainly shown in your words and you were told your services were no longer needed. To sum it all up,this county was totally out of control when Kimbrel took office and like it or not he's going to do a great job fixing it with or without your support.

Jay are you a special kind of STUPID.... Florida Statute dictates that a person will be arrested for a Domestic Battery which is a felony.. Not alowed to check himself into a facility, where he checked himself out ,Kimbrel knew this. A warrant was being processed and he stopped it to allow this idiot to check himself in, his father drove him to the facility, not the sheriffs office. If he had come back to do further harm the responding officer would have been left out to hang, for not doing his job which he is bound by Statue to do..

Seems I struck a nerve. First of all you must be a part of the bunch that got ran off. You gave yourself away when you called me stupid for having a different opinion than you have, just exactly like our past administration viewed and treated the public, like we were all stupid. Now, before I go any further let me assure you, I'm far from stupid. One would think that such a bold statement would come from someone other than an anonimous individual. Hmm let's see, do you presume that you'd call me stupid to my face? My guess would be that you would only make that mistake once, if you even had the guts for that. Now, obviously you know more about this story than the newspaper article that you're commenting about, letting us know the article misinformed us about how he was transported. The article says the sheriff's dept took him and you say his dad did. Is the newspaper giving us bad info or are you ignorantly wrong? We have a good man that is going to be a great sheriff and as far as I'm concerned you can go back to your little corner with the rest of the cowards Mr anonomous and keep on hating that you're not up to par to be a part of his team
