A Clarksville man is behind bars charged with DUI manslaughter following an investigation into a January crash.
Tyrell Ashley Odom, 27, is being held on $20,000 bond at the Calhoun County Jail.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, both John Michael Hemmings and Odom were in a 2000 GMC Sonoma around 8:30 p.m. Jan. 6. The pair were eastbound on Newsome Road in Clarksville, just east of Pine Ridge Road, when they approached a curve, ran off the road, then the driver overcorrected twice. The truck rotated and overturned, but landed back upright. The vehicle then left the area headed westbound on Newsome Road.
Hemmings was pronounced dead at the scene.
At the time of the crash, Odom was charged with disorderly intoxication for allegedly becoming combative on the scene with law enforcement officers.
It was initially unclear who was behind the wheel, but the investigation concluded last week, resulting in charges being filed against Odom.
