The Blountstown Tigers needed a win Friday night against West Gadsden to advance to the playoffs while Liberty County was hosting Port St. Joe across the river in Bristol. A Tiger win and a Liberty County loss would have forced a three team playoff for the district title.

Liberty County fell behind to St. Joe, 19-0, but made a tremendous comeback and forced the game to overtime. The Bulldogs won 26-25 to claim the district championship leaving Blountstown as the district runnerup.

The Tigers travel to Mayo Friday night to complete the regular season schedule then to Bonifay November 16 to battle Holmes County in the opening round of the playoffs. Liberty County will host Bozeman.

The Tigers jumped out to a 27-0 halftime lead and for the second consecutive week backups got to play the entire second half.

“We didn’t know if we would have to play in a playoff Monday night if Liberty County lost to Port St. Joe,” coach Greg Jordan said Monday.

With the Tiger offense rolling up 260 yards on the ground and 206 yards passing the defense held West Gadsden to (-) 39 yards rushing and 80 yards thru the air.”Our defense is really playing well right now,” Jordan stated.

Bobby Andrews got the first two Tiger scores on runs of 2 and 12 yards. Javakiel Brigham raced 76 yards for the Tigers’ next score. Quarterback Hunter Jordan connected with Corin Peterson for 30 yards and the Tigers’ final score of the first half. Andrew Bennett’s extra points gave the Tigers a 27-0 lead at halftime.

Brigham rushed for 128 yards on 8 carries followed by Alex Mayorga with 58 yards on 7 attempts. Jordan ran for 37 yards followed by Brian Middlebrooks with 27 and Bobby Andrews with 20.

Jordan completed 9 of 12 passes for 192 yards, one TD and one interception.

Corin Peterson led the defensive effort with 10 tackles. Brigharm was in on 5 tackles followed by Stephen Matthews with 4. Tripp Taylor, Dewayne Larramore CJ Hiers and Anthony Wyrick had 3 each.

Good Luck, Tigers!
