The past week, Altha FFA members participated in various activities of the Panhandle Youth Expo.
The purpose of the Expo is to provide an opportunity for young people to exhibit their project work, receive constructive feedback on the quality of their work, and to receive recognition for the work they have done through a series of contests. These opportunities help lay the foundation for youth to develop life skills. Life skills that will help them transition into a healthy, responsible adult.
Five FFA members competed in the Swine Show. These members spent 3 months raising an animal for the fair; members were Rena O’Bryan, Jesse Mills, Rachel Williams, Melody Holt and Hardy Mitchell. Rena placed first in the Senior Swine Showmanship Competition and Jesse placed second. Hardy was also the Intermediate Showmanship winner.
We also had several students compete in the Livestock Judging Contest. This is a great practice event for the State Contest. Abbie Edenfield also showed in the Beef Breeding Show. She showed several of her Santa Gertrudis cattle. Abbie placed 4th in the Intermediate Showmanship contest and her animal was the Grand Champion of her breed! Altha FFA had a great week at the Panhandle Youth Expo!
