“They played good and we didn’t,” coach Greg Jordan said Monday summing up the Tigers’ 20-0 loss to Holmes County Friday night at Bowles Field.

“We bobbled some snaps, lined up wrong on defense a few times, had some costly penalties, missed some blocking assignments and were playing a really good team. I’d grade our game performance a “D” and their’s an “A” or “B+”, Jordan noted.

The Tigers spent Monday morning watching film of the Bonifay game before taking the field for a long practice focussing on assignments and conditioning. “We’ve got seven kids playing both ways and I think fatigue was a big fourth quarter factor against Bonifay,” Jordan added.

Bonifay had a 15 senior team returning from a district championship season last year while the Tigers have only 5 seniors and were missing the services of starting guards Jay Williams and C.J. Hires. Sophomores Dewayne Larramore and Jonathan Leath had to fill those positions. Starter Dylon Lee may be out for this week following an injury against Bonifay.

This week the Tigers will host Chipley who defeated Vernon last week, 35-28. Chipley lost to Liberty County in their Kickoff Classic the week before, 35-28.

“They’re pretty good with good size on the front. They’re running a new offense and defense this year under new coach Chip Harris. They’re a state runner-up team so we’ll have to play much better than we did last week,” coach Jordan noted.

The Tigers fell behind 20-0 by halftime and had their best scoring opportunity after taking the second half kickoff. “We drove to their four yard line, but an illegal block call forced us to throw on fourth down and the pass was incomplete, Jordan said.

Offensively for the Tigers Javakiel Brigham had 64 yards rushing on 15 carries. Quarterback Hunter Jordan managed 27 yards on 16 carries. The Tigers completed 2 of 4 passes for only 15 yards and had one pass intercepted. Blountstown bobbled the ball five times and lost two fumbles. Holmes Co. controlled the second quarter allowing the Tigers only 6 offensive plays.

Tripp Taylor led the Tigers’ defensive effort with 10 tackles including half a sack and a tackle for loss. Brigham had 8 tackles followed by Jordan with 6, Roosevelt Martin and Cole Taylor with 5 each. Bobby Andrews and Tanner Peacock each had 4 tackles.
