The 2012 Blountstown Tigers traveled to Wewa last Thursday night for their pre-season classic against the Gators and won handily, 33-14. For the Tigers, it was the first time on a field with lines since practice started with all the recent rain.
“We played pretty well in Wewa, but we’ve got to play much better this week against Holmes County at Bowles Field,” coach Greg Jordan said Monday. “They won 10 games last year and their district title and return 15 seniors. They beat us 15-6 last year and beat Liberty County in the playoffs. It should be a good ball game,” Jordan noted.
The Tigers may be without the services of two starting offensive linemen. Junior guard Jay Williams (270) and Junior guard C.J. Hires (190) suffered leg injuries in Wewa and were to be examined this week.
“We went into Wewa wanting to run the ball and play defense and did both pretty well,” Jordan pointed out. Although no stats were available, the Tigers clearly dominated on offense.
Senior fullback Bobby Andrews scored the Tigers first touchdown from two yards out. In the second quarter, Junior quarterback Hunter Jordan (6’4”, 235) scored from the four and the Tigers led 14-6 at halftime.
Soph. tailback Corin Peterson scored on a 6 yard run in the third period and Freshman Shon Peterson picked up a fumble and raced 25 yards for another Tiger score.
In the fourth period, Soph. Anthony Wyrick scored on a short run. Junior Andrew Bennett kicked 3 of 4 extra points. The Tigers took a knee following their final score.
Offensively the Tigers are much bigger this season on the offensive line and have returning talent at quarterback, runningback and
