Mrs. Sadie Mae Davis McCray, passed away Sunday, August 5, 2012.

Mrs. McCray was born in Hugh Creek, Blountstown to Jessie Pate Davis. She was raised in Hugh Creek and moved to West Palm Beach in 1944. She married the love of her life, PJ McCray, on August 26, 1944. After moving to Riviera Beach Heights, Sadie became the self-appointed police chief of Fifth St. and the Firehouse. She owned and operated a cab stand for years out of Riviera Beach and was affectionately known as the lady with the white hair who drives cabs.

Sadie leaves treasured memories with her children, Peter McCray (Deloris) of West Palm Beach, Emanuel McCray of Riviera Beach, Alfonso McCray of Merritt Island, Veronica McCray of Riviera Beach, William McCray of West Palm Beach, Robert McCray (Rangelique) of Riviera Beach, Nathaniel McCray (Katie) of Boynton Beach, Jerry P. McCray (Tiffany) of Delray Beach, Luther McCray (Tanya) of West Palm Beach, and Kathy McCray Kinsey of Riviera Beach; her siblings: Dorothy Byrd Robinson, George Byrd, and Ronald Byrd; her grandchildren, great grandchildren, one great-great grandchild, nieces, nephews, two sisters-in-law, cousins, and other relatives and friends.

A wake was held Friday, August 10, at the New Inlet Grove Community High School (Former Suncoast Community High School. A celebration of life began Saturday, August 11, at Inlet Grove, immediately followed by a repast in the school cafeteria.

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, August 18, at St. Mary's Missionary Baptist Church, 16345 SE River St., Blountstown. Sadie will be buried in Hugh Creek, Blountstown.
