FCCLA Nationals was held in Orlando, Florida, at the Rosen Shingle Creek Resort and Conference Center on July 7 - 12. Calhoun County had seven students attending - six for competitions and one as a Florida State Officer.
Emily Sewell, from Altha High School represented Altha and the State of Florida as VP of Recreation. She was responsible for keeping the two state meetings energized, as well as leading state officers and the Florida delegation in cheers and songs before each general session of the national conference.
Nancy Mears, Blountstown FCCLA Adviser, and Marie Granger, Altha and Carr FCCLA Adviser, attended the meeting, along with several parents.
The other students presented their competition on Monday to their respective judges and did not know the results until Thursday morning.
Collin Mears, Caylynn Reeder, and Katie Detweiler received Gold medals for Focus on Children, Junior Division.
Justin Terry received a silver medal for Job Application/Job Interview, Senior Division. He is from Blountstown High School.
Sky Pickron received a silver medal for Career Investigation, Junior level. She is from Carr School.
Chelsea Murphy received a Silver Medal for Recycle and Redesign, Senior Division. She is from Altha.
In addition to competitions and attending meetings, these students enjoyed a trip to Universal Studios' Island of Adventure one afternoon.
Next Year, National Convention will be held in Nashville, Tennessee.
