Mr. Alton Jay Deese, 80, passed away Thursday, September 10, 2009, in Tallahassee.
Mr. Deese was born on July 15, 1929, in Ponce De Leon, Fla. and lived in Calhoun and Liberty counties for most of his life. He was a minister of the gospel and was a retired tug boat captain. Jay was of the Pentecostal Faith and was a member of the Gospel Assembly Church in Crawfordville, Fla.
Survivors include his wife, Violet Deese, of Hosford, Fla.; one son, Alton Dwayne Deese, of Blountstown; one daughter, Lazelle Creel, of Blountstown; two stepsons, Danny Ernest and Ronald Ernest of Hosford; one stepdaughter, Nina Moore, of Hosford; two sisters, Merle Pollock of Lake Okeechobee, Fla., and Ernie Whittington of Tallahassee; several grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Saturday, September 12, at 11:00 a.m. (CT) at the Peavy Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Glen Barr, Rev. Stevie Taylor and Rev. Carlton Baggett officiating. Interment followed in the Pine Memorial Cemetery in Blountstown.
