A Blountstown man has been charged with armed burglary after breaking into a Calhoun County home.

A couple residing on NE State Road 69 returned home from church Sunday morning to discover their back door had been busted open.

Inv. Michael Bryant and Dep. John Scheetz responded. Missing was a large amount of jewelry, a purse, and a Remington 870 pump shotgun.
A shoe impression was found on the door where forced entry was made.

Dep. Scheetz and Inv. Bryant found matching shoe impressions about one-tenth of a mile north of the scene at the intersection of a dirt driveway and SR 69. A neighbor reported seeing a white male wearing shorts, a red shirt and having black hair walking up and down the driveway that morning. The subject reportedly made his way down the driveway to the residence located at 19991 NE SR 69. Deputy Scheetz and Inv. Bryant noticed that the shoe impressions were heading in this same direction.

Two other witnesses described a white male subject wearing a red shirt and shorts come out of the woods near the residence. One witness recalled seeing a subject throw a black bag in the bed of a derelict truck parked in the yard. The subject appeared to have covered the bag with trash already in the bed of the truck. She also noticed him go into the woods near the residence carrying a long object wrapped in a dark bag.

Maj. Roman Wood arrived on the scene and the owner of the residence was contacted. Major Wood and Inv. Bryant walked to the rear of the truck as described by the witness and noticed the black bag in plain view in the bed of the truck. The subject had attempted to cover the bag with garbage, however, the bag was clearly visible. The bag was partially unzipped with items from the Bracewell burglary spotted.

Ethan Goodman was found inside the residence and it was learned he had an active warrant out of Gulf County for violation of probation. Goodman was currently under supervision for early release from the DOC for an earlier burglary conviction. He was taken into custody. Goodman matched the physical description of the subject seen by the witnesses.

Following further investigation, Goodman was charged with armed burglary. He remains in custody at the Calhoun County Jail.
