A local man is being held without bond in the Calhoun County Jail on charges of burglary with battery.

Robert Houston Sangster, 60, was arrested in the early morning hours on Sunday.

According to the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office, Dep. Jody Hoagland was dispatched to a home in Faircloth Trailer Park at 2:30 a.m. A woman advised she was hiding behind her neighbor’s vehicle. BPD Ofc. Joe Maxwell also came to assist. The woman was discovered outside with a ripped pajama top and was visibly upset.

The woman told authorities she was awakened by Sangster who she has been involved with intimately over the past year. She said Sangster was not at her house when she went to bed, but noted she keeps a spare key outside. She alleged Sangster awoke her by yelling and cursing, continually asking for sex. The woman said she repeatedly asked him to leave her home, but he refused. She alleged Sangster told her if she didn’t “give” it to him, he would “take” it. At one point, he allegedly threw her on the floor and ripped her pajama top open. When Sangster went to mix a drink, the woman grabbed her phone, ran outside and called authorities.

Sangster locked himself inside the home with the keys inside. Sgt. Jared Nichols arrived to assist and joined Dep. Hoagland in entering the residence. Sangster was found lying on a bed and was taken into custody. It was noted in the report he was under the influence of alcohol.

Lt. Adam Terry met the other deputies at the Calhoun County Jail. As he approached the patrol car to assist, Sangster allegedly began yelling and cursing at him. After he refused to get out of the car three times, Lt. Terry threatened to use the Taser. Sangster allegedly turned toward Lt. Terry as he was unholstering the Taser. Lt. Terry had to drag him into the jail. Sangster then complied and walked to the cell
