In just a few days, 2012 will be upon us, bringing with it a big year at the polls. First on the agenda is the presidential preference primary set for Jan. 31.

“Only Republicans will be able to vote in January as the president does not have any opposition and he’s the Democrat,” says Margie Laramore, Supervisor of Elections for Calhoun County.

On the ballot are Michele Bachmann, Herman Cain (who has not officially dropped out in Florida), Newt Gingrich, Jon Huntsman, Gary Johnson, Ron Paul, Rick Perry, Mitt Romney and Rick Santorum.

Early voting will run from Jan. 21-28 with registered Republicans allowed to cast ballots at the Supervisor of Elections office in the basement of the Calhoun County Courthouse from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. those days.

With recent changes in voting precincts and this being a major election year, Laramore stresses how important it is that all registered voters update any change of address with her office.

“If people will get their addresses changed with us before election day, it will speed up the process,” she remarks, adding that new voter registration cards were recently mailed with new precinct locations, but several were returned due to the voter no longer residing at the address on file.

Call Laramore at 674-8568 or stop by her office in the courthouse basement if you need to make a change on your address information.
