Rocky E. Vickery, 76, of Calhoun County passed away peacefully Saturday, December 17, 2011, at his home after an extended illness.

He was born July 31, 1935, the son of the late Pansy Vickery McCormick. Mr. Vickery worked construction and then was self-employed in a pulp wood business. He retired as a farmer in 1998. He was a member of the Macedonia First Baptist Church of Blountstown and a member of the Calhoun County Farm Bureau, serving as a Board of Director for 36 years. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed Martin bird-watching, hunting, and fishing.

Mourning his passing are his devoted wife of 53 years, Glenda (Branton) Vickery of Blountstown; two daughters, Becky Vickery and Dr. Glenda Sue Vickery; and his much loved grandson, Branton Rocky Vickery, all of Blountstown; two brothers, Donald McCormick (the late Carissa) of Arcadia, FL and Freddy McCormick of Calhoun County; six sisters, Geraldine Kelley (Clyde), Jean Murphy (the late Buddy), Shirley Young, Jennifer Mears (Robert), Pam Kahle (James), and Margaret Barfield (Jack), all of Calhoun County; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, December 20, at 10 A.M. (CST) in the Macedonia First Baptist Church with the Reverend David Wood and David Pitts officiating. Interment will follow in the Macedonia First Baptist Church Cemetery in Blountstown. The family will receive friends Monday, December 19, from 5 pm - 7 pm at Peavy Funeral Home. Memorial contributions in Rocky Vickery’s memory can be made to Covenant Hospice, 4215 Kelson Ave., Marianna, FL 32446.

All arrangements are under the direction of Marlon Peavy at Peavy Funeral Home in Blountstown (674-2266).
