$20 Scratch-Off Purchased at Southern Express

The Florida Lottery announced last week that James Earl Hunt, 62, of Altha, claimed a $1 million prize in the FLORIDA MILLIONAIRES CLUB Scratch-Off game at Florida Lottery headquarters in Tallahassee.

Hunt chose the one-time, lump-sum payment option for his winnings in the amount of $700,000. He purchased his winning ticket at Southern Express, located at 25653 North Main Street in Altha.

The County Record spoke with Hunt on Tuesday morning and he says he has no plans to close his auto repair shop. As far as his plans for the winnings he simply says, “To spend it!” adding he has already been on a $100,000 spending spree since last week.

The $20 FLORIDA MILLIONAIRES CLUB Scratch-Off game launched on January 11, and includes more than $151 million in total prizes. Currently, there is one top prize of $3 million and two prizes of $1 million remaining. The overall odds of winning are one in 2.95.

The Florida Lottery offers more than 40 Scratch-Off games at any given time through instant ticket vending machines or on-counter displays at more than 13,000 retailers statewide. Scratch-Off games are an important part of the Lottery's portfolio of games, making up approximately 56 percent of ticket sales and generating more than $420 million for the Educational Enhance-ment Trust Fund in fiscal year 2010-11.

Florida voters, by a two-to-one margin, approved a constitutional amendment in 1986 authorizing the state to operate a lottery for the purpose of generating significant additional moneys for education. To date, the Florida Lottery has funded Bright Futures scholarships for more than 500,000 Florida students to attend college in our state. Floridians continue to show their support by purchasing billions of dollars in Lottery products per year, resulting in contributions of more than $23 billion to the Educational Enhancement Trust Fund since 1988.
