Two female inmates from Calhoun County who are housed at the Liberty County Jail were on the run for about six hours this weekend after escaping.

The escape was the second for inmate Violet Manning who was initially arrested on meth charges in October. Also escaping was Calesta Manasco, 26.

Just before midnight, a call was received at the Calhoun County Jail by a man who asked if it was true Calesta Manasco had escaped. The man reported she called him from a cell phone. The Calhoun County jailer phoned the Liberty County jail with the information. A jailer advised that she had just performed a count and Manasco was still in jail, but she would check.

At 12:06 a.m. CT, Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office Cpl. Eddie Dalton was notified by dispatch that both Manasco and Manning had escaped. Around 1:30 a.m., the Liberty County jailer spoke with Cpl. Dalton and said she reviewed the jail camera and spotted both inmates leaving through a back door around 11:30 p.m. CT/12:30 a.m. ET. The jailer advised she had a Liberty deputy enroute to the jail.

Dep. John Scheetz joined Cpl. Dalton in a search for the pair. The investigation led to a man Manasco was living with at the time of her arrest. He said she called and told him she was coming to get her belongings. The man gave Cpl. Dalton the cell number from which she called. and said Manasco wanted him to pick her up in Wewa. A Gulf County deputy found the women in Wewa and they were returned to custody in Liberty County.
