Last Wednesday, November 2, the Altha Cross Country traveled to Wewa to compete at districts. The top three teams and top 13 individual finalists advanced to regionals.

Coach Sewell stated that she was well pleased with the district performance from both teams. “We had four boys and two girls to set personal records at district, three girls and one boy to advance to regionals individually, and both teams will advance to regionals this year, so, yes, we are excited and very proud of all of their hard work and efforts,” Coach Sewell remarks.

“We have had some set backs with injuries,” Coach Sewell continues. “On the girls’ team, one of our top five runners, Carly Schwartz, was not able to compete at district due to a calf injury, but we think she is going to be back for regionals. Also, Josie Hall, our rookie runner, who came on board this year running strong, suffered an injury slowing her time down by almost 3 minutes at district. But even with these setbacks the girls were still able to be district runner-up. Our boys and our girls have a lot of heart, they worked hard and they leave it all out there. We are excited and looking forward to regionals! We tell our kids all the time that ‘all it takes, is all you’ve got’ and, win or lose, at regionals you can bet one thing, our kids will give it all they’ve got!”

Statistics for the district meet are as follows:
Varsity Boys
Devin Ferrell- 17:51 2nd overall (PR)
Ricky Morales- 20:22
Nick Young- 20:51 (PR)
Kyler Dew- 21:00 (PR)
Porter Smith- 21:35
Jamie Coleman- 21:45 (PR)
Brendan Dew- 23:19

Kimi Wiltse- 24:15 - 7th overall (PR)

Regionals will be held this Saturday in Lake City at Alligator Park.
