Manning
A Blountstown woman arrested in a meth lab raid Wednesday night escaped from custody in the early morning hours Thursday.

As previously reported by The County Record, Violet Virginia Manning, 37, was booked into the Calhoun County Jail on manufacture and possession of meth charges, as well as child abuse, late Wednesday night. She was then transferred to the Liberty County Jail where female inmates are housed.

According to the Liberty County Sheriff’s Office, Manning was being processed just before 5:30 a.m. ET when she asked Correctional Officer Barber if she was going to be placed back in a holding cell. When Ofc. Barber advised she would be put in a regular cell, Manning responded, “I can’t do that,” then ran from the jail.

Dep. Bobby Revell, who was in his patrol car, responded to a call from dispatch advising an inmate had escaped. While en route to the jail, he spotted Manning approximately 50 yards from the jail laying by a fence. She was then taken back into custody and charged with escape.

The report does not detail how Manning escaped, but there is no indication in the report she was being held behind a locked door or had anything preventing her from exiting. Col. Brigham Shuler, a spokesperson for the Liberty County Sheriff’s Office, is checking into the matter and told The County Record he would provide more details on how Manning managed to escape during booking. Check our print edition this week for more on the escape.
