Pauline Young, age 93, of Blountstown passed away Sunday, November 20, 2016 in Blountstown. Born in Adel, Georgia, August 2, 1923, Pauline was the daughter of the late William L. and Julia Davis. She was a homemaker and was a member of Revival Tabernacle Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, J. B. Young and her son, Dallas Sellers.
Survivors include a son, Johnny Sellers of Hot Springs, Arkansas; a daughter, Linda Wise of Tallahassee; many grandchildren, and many great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends 12:30-1:30 p.m. ET, Wednesday, November 23 at the Fusion Church in Bristol. Services will follow at 1:30 ET in the church with Reverend Darryl Johnson officiating. Interment will be in Pine Memorial Cemetery in Blountstown.

James Richard “Ricky” Hires, age 57, of Blountstown passed away Saturday, November 19 in New Orleans, Louisiana. Born in Marianna, June 21, 1959, Ricky was the son of James Grover Hires and Louise (Stewart) Hires. He was a shop mechanic foreman for Rental, Inc. Ricky was a member of Abe Springs Baptist Church and was a volunteer fireman for Nettle Ridge Fire Department.
Ricky was preceded in death by his father, James Grover Hires.

MILDRED H. STRAWN
Mildred H. Strawn passed away Tuesday, November 15, 2016 in Jackson County, Florida. She was born December 8, 1918 in Blountstown, Florida to John M. and Dora (Parish) Hall. She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband of sixty-seven years, E. Clyatte Strawn; two brothers, John Earl Hall and E. Carl Hall; and one sister, Margaret Hall.
She is survived by her daughter, Marie Ann Granger, her husband, Sidney Granger; her son, Edwin C. Strawn, his wife, Lynn; six grandchildren, Carylee Granger Sewell, Greg Granger, Bill Strawn and wife Lori, Chris Strawn and wife Karen, Billy Strawn and wife Lisa, Patrick Strawn and wife Jennifer; nineteen great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Shirley Hall of Dothan, Alabama and Bonnie Hall of Lynchburg, Virginia; numerous nephews and nieces.
Mildred graduated from Calhoun County High School (now Blountstown High School) in 1936. She attended Florida State College for Women (now Florida State University) and received her teaching certification and taught school in Calhoun County at Kinard School and Macedonia School. She worked side by side with her husband in the Strawn and Son Variety Shop for over twenty-five years.
She was a long-standing member of Gateway Baptist Church, a Sunday School teacher, and worked with the youth and Girl’s Auxiliary program. When she attended First Baptist Church of Blountstown, she was instrumental in getting the Girl’s Auxiliary started. She was an active member of the Women’s Missionary Union at both churches. She belonged to the Gideon’s International Auxiliary for over fifty years. She was a seventy-five-year member of the Order of the Eastern Star, where she served as Worthy Matron for two different years.
The family will receive friends and family, Friday, November 25, 2016 at Adams Funeral from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. CT. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. CT November 26, 2016 at Adams Funeral Home Chapel officiated by Reverend Roger King. Interment will be at Pine Memorial Cemetery with an Eastern Star Graveside service.

Helen Mears Hathaway, age 83, of Blountstown passed away Monday, November 21, 2016 in Blountstown. Born in Marianna, November 27, 1932, Helen was the daughter of the late John and Addis (Gable) O’Bryan. She was a homemaker and was custodian for Blountstown First Baptist Church for several years. She was a member of Rivertown Community Church.
In addition to her parents, John and Addis O’Bryan, Helen was preceded in death by her son, Bobby Mears; two brothers, Fred O’Bryan and James O’Bryan; and a sister, Allie Mae Raybon.
Survivors include five sons, Steve Mears and his wife, Pat of Blountstown, Bill Mears and his mate, Betty of Marianna, Clinton Mears and his mate, Lori, Jackie Mears, and Donald Mears, all of Blountstown; two daughters, Betty Hodge of Blountstown and Shirley Davis of Bristol; twenty-seven grandchildren; nineteen great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; a sister, Doris Tyre and her husband Fred of Grand Ridge; a host of cousins, nieces, and nephews; and a special caregiver, Crystal Brangan.

R. D. Sewell, age 76, of Hosford passed away Friday, November 18, 2016 in Blountstown. Born in Kinard, October 9, 1940, R. D. was the son of the late Lark and Annie (Osborne) Sewell. He was a saw mill operator and was a member of Mt. Zion United Pentecostal Holiness Church. He was an avid fisherman.
In addition to his parents, Lark and Annie Sewell, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary (Elliott) Sewell; five brothers, A. L., Albert, Hilton, Clarence, and Curtis Sewell; and two sisters, Myrtle Pitts and Ruby White.
Survivors include three sons, Robert Dowdy and his wife, Connie of Hosford, Gregory Lee Sewell of Louisiana, and Michael David Sewell of Hosford; two daughters, Marie Sewell of Hosford and Linda Landrum and her husband, Grant of Blountstown; nine grandchildren; and one sister, Mable Burke of Hosford.

Wreck on Hwy 71 claims the life of long time Calhoun County Resident
A serious accident this past Tuesday November 15th claimed the life of Mrs. Mildred Strawn, age 97, of Blountstown and seriously injured her Daughter, Marie Granger, age 68 also of Blountstown. According to the Florida Highway Patrol, Mrs. Granger was traveling southbound on Hwy 71 in Jackson County in a 2009 Mercury Marquis with Mrs. Strawn as her passenger when it struck a logging skidder being pulled by a John Deere Tractor in the roadway driven by Devin Atwell, age 23, of Bonifay, who was not injured. Upon hitting the skidder, the car rotated and became airborne causing it to hit a northbound 2006 Isuzu truck driven by James Marcum, age 29 of Bonifay, causing it to overturn on its roof.
Mr. Marcum's truck came to rest in a nearby cotton field. Both Marcum and Granger sustained serious injuries, with Granger being transported to Tallahassee Memorial and Marcum to Bay Medical. In addition a 1998 Chevy Camaro traveling northbound avoided the wreck by driving off the road into the cotton field. It was driven by Joshua Williams, age 36, of Cottondale. Mr. Williams was not injured. FHP notes that all Three involved in the crash were wearing seatbelts. Charges are pending the completion of the homicide investigation by the Highway Patrol.
Mrs. Granger underwent surgery Friday and is recovering at TMH. Funeral arrangements for Mrs. Strawn have not been announced.
