Charlie “Buzz” Milton Stokes, Jr., 87, passed away February 25, 2016.
Buzz was born in Bunkie, LA, to Charlie and Ada Hebert Stokes. A very dedicated man, he worked for Reichhold Chemical from the time he was 18 years old, until just last year. He loved fishing, hunting, and listening to gospel music. Buzz was a Baptist Deacon, a member of Michael Memorial Baptist Church in Gulfport, and a Mason in Dixie Lodge # 179 in Blountstown, FL.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Bonnie Quirk Stokes; his parents, Charlie M. Stokes, Sr., and Ada Hebert Stokes; his son, John Milton Stokes; and his brother, Courtland Stokes, Sr.
He is survived by his children, Sandra Stokes (George) McNew of Gulfport, Jenny Stokes (Jimmy) Hill of Altha, FL, and Kevin (Katrina) Stokes of Gulfport; siblings, Julius Stokes, Lee (Vicky) Stokes, Derald (Marsha) Stokes, Verna (Russell) Turrentine, Mary Glenneth (Estil) Whitehead, and Helen Squyres; grandchildren, Melissa McNew (Chester) Garrison, Charlie McNew, Kyle (Robyn) Hill, Kristin (Erik) Hill, Bridget (Mitchell) White, Cameron Stokes, Luke, Bonnie Rose, and Elijah Stokes; and his great grandchildren, Kase, Kade, Jenna, Micah, Sean, Loren, Rylee, and Jaime.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, February 27, at Michael Memorial Baptist Church, Gulfport, from 10-11am. Funeral services will follow in the sanctuary at 11 am.
Visitation will also be held on Monday, February 29, at Peavy Funeral Home, Blountstown, FL, from 10-11am. Graveside services will follow at Cypress Creek Cemetery at 11:30 am.
