OBITUARY - Hassig
Our beautiful angel, Deborah Kay Cayson Hassig, 53, of Blountstown, left this heavenly earth on Saturday, October 31, 2015, after a long, courageous battle with cancer. She entered the loving arms of Jesus surrounded by her family. Heaven gained an angel who will continue to love and protect all those she left behind.
Deborah was born on October 17, 1962, in Marianna, FL. She was preceded in death by her father, Albert Gerald Cayson, Sr., and father-in-law, Danny Marvin Hassig, Sr.
She is survived by her husband of 25 years, Danny Marvin Hassig, Jr.; her children, Adam Cayson Edwards and twins, Anna Elizabeth and Ayers Eubanks Hassig; her loving mother, Betty Ann Eubanks Cayson; her siblings, Dianne C. Lainhart and husband, Paul, of Lynn Haven, Albert Gerald Cayson, Jr. and wife, Janet, of Tallahassee, Vicki C. Bennett of Blountstown, and close friend, Jim Stefanoff, of Dayton, OH. She is also survived by her mother and father-in-law, Gail and Donnie O’Bryan, of Blountstown; sistersin-law and spouses, Kim and Alan Peacock of Altha, Wendy and Bud Guilford of Blountstown, Stephanie and Steve Armour of TN. She has many nieces and nephews who loved her dearly, as well as cousins who enjoyed her infectious smile.
Deborah graduated from Blountstown High School in 1980. She attended Auburn University where she pledged Kappa Alpha Theta sorority and was a little sister for Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity. She graduated from Troy State University with a BS in early childhood and elementary education. She taught school for over 25 years in the states of Hawaii, North Carolina, and Florida, where she earned the admiration and love of many students throughout the years. Deborah will never know how many lives she touched and changed through her unconditional love for all students. Deborah volunteered at Blountstown High School after taking a medical leave. The students all had a special bond with Mrs. Hassig. She loved them all and was so generous with her time and special talents. Her loving spirit, smile, and true concern for all will never be forgotten. She treated everyone with honor and respect no matter their status in life (a trait taught to her by her family from a young age.)
She was a member of Open Arms Assembly of God Church in Frink, FL, where she was loved and supported by her church family throughout her courageous fight. She was a former member of the First Baptist Church and grew up in the First United Methodist Church of Blountstown. Some of Deborah’s favorite Bible words can be found in Acts 4:16, “An outstanding miracle, and we cannot deny it.” Deborah underlined these words in her Bible following the miracle God provided her with last June. This miracle allowed her to spend sixteen more precious months on this earth with her “babies.”
The family requests you consider volunteering to continue her legacy of giving to others. Flowers will be accepted or donate to your favorite charity. Visitation will be at Peavy’s Funeral Home on Wednesday, November 4, in Blountstown, from 5 – 7 CST. The service will be held at First Baptist Church of Blountstown on Thursday, November 5, at 2:00 p.m. CST. Interment will follow at Boggs Cemetery.
