George R. O’Bryan, 93, of Altha, Florida, passed away Saturday, August 24, 2013, in Blountstown, Florida.
G. R. was born January 24, 1920, in Altha to the late John Alexander and Sally Adonnia (Hamilton) O’Bryan. He was the youngest of nine children. G. R. was a graduate of Altha High School and Tulane University in New Orleans, Louisiana. He served in the United States Navy for 31 years and retired as a commander. He was a pilot during World War II and served in the Korean War, Vietnam Conflict, and the Cuban Missile Crisis.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John Alexander and Sally Adonnia (Hamilton) O’Bryan; his first wife, Mildred Janet (Hudson) O’Bryan; and a daughter, Sharon Ann O’Bryan.
He is survived by his wife, Billie (Guy) O’Bryan, of Altha; a son, George Michael O’Bryan, and wife, Debbie, also of Altha; daughters, Lynn Strawn and husband, Edwin, of Blountstown, and Mary Patrice Simpson of Del Haven, New Jersey; a step-son, Scott Sheffield, and wife, Tammy, of Crawfordville, Florida; four step-daughters, Patsy Williams and husband, Hugh, Sandra Johnson and husband, Tom, Amy Mullinax and husband, Chris, all of Tallahassee, Florida, and Linda Bok and husband, Fred, of Panama City, Florida; seven grandchildren, William David “Billy” Strawn and wife, Lisa, Patrick Strawn and wife, Jennifer, Jennifer Agerton, Tiffany Slick and husband, Paul, Heather Murphy and husband, Chad, Zachary O’Bryan and wife, Lauren, and Trevor O’Bryan; five step-grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m., Monday, August 26, at the funeral home. Sam Laymon White, age 70, of Altha, Florida passed away Tuesday, August 20, 2013.
Laymon was born in Altha September 4, 1942 to the late Sam and Elon (Bracewell) White. He retired on August 30, 2004 from the City of Blountstown after forty-three years of service. Laymon was a dedicated member of Victory Hill Pentecostal Holiness Church where he served as a deacon for more than twenty years.

Charles Ray Howell, 76, of Blountstown, passed away on August 19, 2013, at his home in Blountstown.
He was born January 27, 1937, in Blountstown and lived most of his life in Calhoun County except for a short period away for college and early professional career. He graduated from Blountstown High School in 1955 and was named the MVP of the football team. He went on to attend the University of Florida and was a proud alumni of UF’s class of 1963, received his degree in Entomology. He had just become a member of the University of Florida’s Grand Guard Society, recognizing his 50 year status of being an alumni. He served in the United States Marine Corps and was proud of this. His professional life started with a job in the chemical field, followed by teaching in the Calhoun County School System and other surrounding schools. Most of his teaching career was as an Ag teacher. In 1973, he started his termite and pest control business, Howell Exterminating and Chemical Co. He owned and operated this until his retirement.
He is preceeded in death by his father, Charlie Hix Howell, and his mother, Ruth Ray Howell.
He is survived by his four children, three daughters, Lynne Wahlquist and husband, Patrick Wahlquist, of Bristol, Renee Jeppson and husband, Rhett Jeppson, of Blountstown, Sherri Shuler and husband, David Shuler, of Bristol, and one son, Charles Ray Howell, II, and wife, Allyson Howell, of Blountstown; 12 grandchildren, Laura Wahlquist, Holley Jeppson Richards, Andrew Shuler, Melanie Shuler, Heidi Jeppson, Hayden Jeppson, Hyrum Wahlquist, Thomas Howell, Emily Shuler, Caroline Howell, Sarah Shuler and Hans Jeppson; one-great granddaughter, Capri Richards. Preceding him in death were his parents, Rubin and Gertrude (Odom) Whitfield; his son, Mark Whitfield; and a sister, Sharon Parrish.
He is survived by his wife, Bernice, of Bristol; a son, Steve Whitfield, and wife, Vicky, of Blountstown; grandchildren, Doug, Drew, and Ashley Whitfield, Mandy Hires, Paula Rich, and Phyllis McPhaul; three great-grandchildren, April and Kaylee Rich and Ryan Whitfield; stepsons, Kenneth Stacy of Marianna, Florida, and Tracey Stacy of Blountstown; a step-daughter, Patsy McPhaul, also of Blountstown; and several nieces, nephews and other extended family.

Ruth was born on February 21, 1922, in Calhoun County and has lived in Gulf County since 1972, coming from Marathon, FL. She worked as a grocery store cashier for a number of years. Ruth was a member of Glad Tidings Assembly of God Church in Wewahitchka.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Tom Aultman. They were married in November of 1937.

Mrs. Mary Frances Terry, age 64, of Blountstown, FL passed away Friday, August 2, 2013 in Blountstown, FL. Frances was born on February 4, 1949 in Graceville, FL and had lived in Calhoun County for most of her life. She was a retired seamstress and caregiver. Frances was preceded in death by her husband, James Melvin Terry, daughter, Donna Terry, a sister, Ruth Hough. She was a member of First Assembly of God Church in Blountstown, FL.

Mr. Curtis David Strickland, 42, of Blountstown, FL, passed away early Saturday morning, August 3, 2013, in Panama City, FL.
David was born on June 7, 1971, in Pensacola, FL, and had lived in Blountstown for most of his life. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Blountstown.
David was preceded in death by his parents, Curtis Ray Strickland and Juanita Strickland Lee.
Survivors include a son, Nathan David, of Blountstown; a daughter, Sonya Strickland, of Blountstown; a grandchild, Braydon; several cousins and a host of friends.
No services are planned at this time. Memorialization will be by cremation.
The family will receive friends Monday, August 5, from 6:00 pm (CDT) until 8:00 pm (CDT) at Peavy Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, a memorial account has be established in the name of Curtis D.
