There will be two events in Calhoun County to commemorate Memorial Day.
A flag ceremony will take place at Magnolia Square Park in downtown Blountstown on Friday, May 22, at 8:00 a.m., sponsored by the Blountstown Lions Club.
Prayer will be offered by City Manager James Woods. Flags will be placed around the fountain and Drew Peacock, a veteran from World War II, will read each name as his fellow Lions unveil a flag for each veteran who gave his life for his country. Mayor Winston Deason will serve as the speaker. The Amvets will provide personnel to salute each veteran. Last, a basket of flowers will be set between the flags. Flyers of the flags will be Laddie Williams, Buddy Smith, and Harvey Grantham.
Bring your lawn chairs and let’s fill Magnolia Park with people who do not take their heroes for granted, who love both county and country.
A Memorial Day service will be held in front of the Calhoun County Courthouse on Monday, May 25, at 8 a.m.
This event is being sponsored by American Legion Post 272, the Ladies Auxiliary, and Sons of the American Legion. Bring a folding chair and come honor our fallen comrades.
