School Board takes a stand on prayer

The Calhoun County School Board is taking a stand against efforts to eliminate prayer at school functions.

As reported in the Sept. 14 issue, Superintendent Tommy McClellan recently spoke with legal counsel at the Superintendent’s Association regarding the matter. Attorney Joy Frank advised her interpretation is the school district can in no way be involved in religious activities at school-sponsored events. She said she understood that pertained to school-sponsored prayer, student-led prayer, and even a PA system announcement calling for a moment of silence.

School Board members voted unanimously at a special meeting last week to continue prayer at school functions.

“That’s the way I felt all the time,” says Superintendent McClellan. “But it has to be a School Board decision. I think the community is behind it.”

I agree with the school board members about keeping prayer in school. I mean, look at what has happen since prayer has been taking out of many things.

Do we not have the freedom of speech? Then it is our right to be able to pray in school. A moment of silence is not to much to ask.

I have watched our public schools decline in many ways since prayer has been taken out. As Christians, we have sit around and allowed one woman to take prayer away from our kids.

Its simple, if a child/adult dont wish to prayer, so be it, but allow the one's who wish to that moment of silence

What are the schools gonna lose, a MINUTE...hey, that is not asking much.

Did the school board members hear about what happened to Santa Rosa School Board? After three years of litigation, over $400k of their own attorneys fees, the district had to stop sponsoring prayer and pay the plaintiff's attorneys fees. Hope the district has a nice rainy day fund. http://www.nwfdailynews.com/news/oks-41530-prayer-board.html
