Football is in the air!

The Tigers kicked off fall two-a-day practices on Monday, Aug. 10. We had 45 players report from grades 9-12 to comprise the JV and varsity teams. We have two full weeks of practice with no games. The third full week is game week for the varsity.

The Tigers travel to Freeport on Friday, Aug. 28, for the Kickoff Classic. The first home game will be week 1 of the regular season vs. Sneads at 7 p.m. at Bowles Field.

The Tigers look to rebound from an injury plagued 3-7 season last year. The coaching staff has a new look with three new faces on board. John Rodgers will help run the defense, Ezra Simpkins will coach the offensive and defensive line and Kelly Lowrey will help with the quarterbacks. A familiar face will be back on the sidelines this year as Chaz Johns will be helping coach the offensive line and be calling the plays for the JV team. Coach Emory Horne is still recovering from back surgery and we all wish him the best and a speedy recovery.

The first week of camp went well. The new players and coaches are all getting to know each other and getting comfortable with each other. A lot of learning took place the first week, laying a good foundation to build on. All the players and coaches are excited about the upcoming season with the possibilities that lie ahead.

The Tigers are back in district 2, class 1A with West Gadsden, Liberty County, Franklin County, Port St. Joe, and Wewa. It’s a tough six team district, but all teams are on equal playing fields. All are rural public schools after the same thing...a chance to play for a championship!

A few important dates to remember...the community pep rally will be Tuesday, Aug. 25, at the BHS Auditorium at 7 p.m. All fans are encouraged to attend to meet the 2009 Tigers and new coaches. The Future Tiger Camp will be Saturday, Sept. 5, from 9 to 11:30 a.m. at Bowles Field. Registration will run from 8 to 9 a.m. that morning or register early at BHS front office.

Look forward to seeing all Tiger fans this upcoming season. Go Tigers!!!!!
